9:18p The doctor's appointment The appointment went well today. It was super long (1.5 hours) but they had tons of questions. In the end the doctor decided that since Miles has had no symptoms, we should keep him on the steroid inhaler (that was the cause of his thrush) for four more months. In four months we'll go back and they can reevaluate. They didn't do another xray which surprised me. I want to know if it's any better! Oh well, less radiation is a good thing. The bad part is that if Miles still has the masses in his lungs, he is more likely to contract pneumonia again and end up in the hospital again. I guess it's a waiting game for his next cold. What they think is going on is that all the pneumonia and wheezing caused a bunch of mucus plugs that are just hanging around. Either they will go away on their own or they will have to do a bronchoscopy if they don't. They're still not 100% sure though, and won't be unless they perform a CT scan which neither us nor the doctor thought was a good idea. Oh, and one thing that kind of upset me was that the doctor said when he looked at Miles's first xrays from his hospital stay in April, his lungs and entire chest area looked like that of an elderly man with emphysema. Ugh, it just kind of sickened me to know it was *that* bad, but at the same time I'm glad the doctor was honest with me and didn't just call it "significant" or "striking".
